GLDN is hiring – including for a new Head of Marketing
We at Peckman Search Partners love all our clients – but GLDN occupies an especially cozy niche in our hearts. This La Conner jewelry maker is the ultimate in direct-to-consumer retail: Most of its pieces are made to order, with the shopper playing a unique role in helping to inform the ultimate product. In addition, most of GLDN’s wares are made right here in Washington State by the company’s craftspeople.
In short, it’s a remarkably intimate and unmediated way of making and selling … well, anything. The fact that what GLDN’s making and selling is jewelry that’s both environmentally sustainable and of impressively high quality makes us even prouder to work with this singular company.
And now GLDN is hiring its first-ever Head of Marketing. The name of the game, as you might have guessed, is e-commerce. This is a role that places a very large emphasis on sustaining and building the digital customer base, so proven experience (at least a decade) in that realm is an absolute must.
Another especially salient feature of this role is its emphasis on small-team management. GLDN prizes sustainability not only in its jewelry materials and packaging, but also in the pacing of its own growth. This is a company that, when presented with a choice between explosive expansion and the preservation of work-life balance, will choose balance 11 times out of 10.
As a consequence, the leadership of the marketing team is about building and sustaining a supportive, creative work environment – which then leads to healthy and harmonious growth. As the company itself says, “Growth for GLDN means not just driving more revenue but doing so in a responsible and sustainable way that enables brand growth and growth for all employees.”
This role reports to the company’s Chief Operating Officer, and will work closely with senior management (including the company’s brilliant founder, Chrissy Lavdovsky) to set revenue targets and create strategies for meeting them.
In addition to the strategic aspect, there’s a strong hands-on, bit-of-this-bit-of-that vibe to this job – you’ll need to be able to work constructively both with internal teams and external partners, in addition to having a knack for managing such organic social channels as Facebook and Instagram. GLDN seeks a “creative storyteller with an analytical mindset” who can “bring a balanced approach between hitting numerical targets with constantly evolving the brand.”
I’ll close with a couple of additional direct quotes from the company itself, which I think is fitting since it approaches so many aspects of its business so thoughtfully. The first is about one of the company’s core values – diversity.
“We are committed to inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience, to name a few,” the job announcement states. “We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion isn’t only what’s ethically right – it’s what works to create better ideas, a stronger team with deeper relationships, and the most delight in our hearts. We honor and cherish our team, customers, and everyone else for being their true, unique selves.”
Amazing stuff – it’s great to see a company stretch itself well beyond the usual dutiful boilerplate about this subject, and really go out of its way to declare its devotion to diversity as a value.
Finally, this: “Lastly, and most importantly, you are insatiably curious, kind, and empathic. Your worldview is not insular, but expansive. You are ready to do something meaningful and impactful. And above all, you love to learn and get things done.”
All right, all you expansive insatiables out there – you know who you are. If this sounds like a dream job for you, let me know right away.
PS From PSP: The top marketing job isn’t the only role that GLDN is seeking to fill. It’s also looking for a Head of Product; a Social Media/Community Engagement Influencer; and an Email Marketing Manager. If you’d like to learn more about any of these positions, drop a line to your good friends here at Peckman Search Partners – we’d be glad to fill you in. ###
